Miles Partnership is delighted to announce the appointment of Abby Parkin to the role of Account Manager/Strategist in the New Zealand office. This is another exciting development following the recent engagement of Kristin Dunne as Director of Destination Strategy. As well as bringing valuable experience in local tourism, Abby has worked for the last two years as the Digital Communications Manager at One Young World, the global forum for young leaders – an organisation world-renowned for making meaningful change in the sustainable development space.
“We are seeing the tourism industry emerge as a critical leader in stewardship of places for future generations and finding a strong voice in community, sustainability and climate related issues. This makes us very excited to have Abby join our rapidly expanding New Zealand team,” says C.A Clark, General Manager of Miles Partnership South Pacific.
“One Young World is an incredible organisation which connects all the world’s most impactful young leaders, and in her time there Abby has developed some strong relationships with people who are changing the world. We have been looking to build our capability in Sustainable Management and Development and between Abby and Kristin’s experience and vision we know this is going to be a space where we can really assist our partners.”
“Good destination stewardship means rethinking every part of tourism and balancing benefits for communities, the environment, visitors and local businesses.” says Dunne “It’s going to be so valuable having Abby onboard. For the last two years she has lived and breathed the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and is passionate about how the framework can be applied to businesses and industry sectors to create tangible, positive change.”
Abby’s role with One Young World was to manage their digital communications strategy, telling the stories of their 13,700 strong global Ambassador community to an international audience of over 1 million. Every year, at the annual Summit, One Young World convenes the brightest young talent from 190+ countries working to achieve the SDGs. The event is attended by world leaders and high-profile influencers in the activism field including Sir John Major, Meghan Markle and Bob Geldof, among many more. “Building and maintaining relationships was an integral part of my role at One Young World.” says Abby. “During my time as Digital Communications Manager I worked closely with many of our corporate and governmental partners, and many VIP speakers, on digital content partnership opportunities and joint venture campaigns.”
Here at Miles Partnership, we believe as the world begins to shift towards the ‘new-normal’, the tourism industry in Aotearoa and the wider South Pacific region has a unique opportunity to become a world leader in regenerative and destination stewardship and are investing in world-class people to cement their commitment to the South Pacific region. And even more excitingly, as Miles Partnership South Pacific welcomes another tourism professional to their New Zealand team the Founder of Miles Partnership, Roger Miles, has just been awarded one of the industry’s highest honors being inducted into the U.S. Travel Hall of Leaders. Exciting times for this constantly evolving global company.
